Trees and vegetation can cool our cities by providing shade, storing carbon, reflecting sunlight and by releasing moisture into the air through their leaves in a process called transpiration. We want to see more greening in Melbourne by planting more plants and trees to grow our Urban Forest. Importantly, the more plant biodiversity we have – the more likely our Urban Forest will survive a changing climate to continue to provide habitat for our city’s creatures.
Our Park Rangers will visit some of our coolest inner city parks with their education trailer throughout February. They will be available to talk to lunchtime visitors about what can be done to increase biodiversity in the backyard.
