GECO is a grassroots community group based in Goongerah, East Gippsland. Since 1993 they have campaigned for the protection of East Gippsland’s spectacular forests, including old growth, rainforest and threatened species habitat that are subject to logging. Using science, political lobbying, awareness raising and direct action, GECO has secured the addition of Goolengook forest to the Errinundra National Park, the linking of Snowy River and Errinundra National Park, and the creation of new conservation zones.
